Your Belvedere Square Gift Guide

Gift Guide 2016: Belvedere Square

The House Downtown (524 E. Belvedere Ave., [410] 464-1440, thehousedowntown.com) has a high-end, rustic vibe. It’s packed with furniture and objets d’art, with a smattering of little things—a bowl of geodes, say. There is a magnificent Hollace iron chandelier marked down to just under $1,200. That kind of place.

The shopping center (529 E. Belvedere Ave.) has long been a North Baltimore anchor, an aspirational spot in a stable neighborhood right next to York Road and the Senator Theater. Along with Atwater’s (529 E. Belvedere Ave., [410] 323-2396, atwaters.biz) and Sofi’s Crepes (5911 York Road, [410] 727-5737, sofiscrepes.com) there are places like the kombucha and kraut vendor Hex Ferments (529 E. Belvedere Ave., [410] 775-5044, hexferments.com) and Pure Chocolate by Jinji (529 E. Belvedere Ave., [410] 394-9901, jinjichocolate.com), which provide all the signals a shopper should need (edited.)

Tuesday Morning (520 E. Belvedere Ave., [410] 464-1617) is more down to earth, with art in the $100 range and less-exclusive knick-knackery. There are percale, 200-thread-count sheets for $100, big comforters, toys, games, kitchen stuff (you still want/need a Keurig coffee maker? How about one of those giant red stand mixers?), area rugs—even dog treats and a fold-away dog ramp for when Fido’s hips get too shaky to jump on the bed or couch ($50).

Vita (516 E. Belvedere Ave., [410] 435-8482, vitabaltimore.com) is a new women’s lifestyle boutique at Belvedere Square (edited.) The sign outside says “Life Styled by Charm City Run,” because they have the same owner. The place features dresses and tops by Prana and a lot of Under Armour apparel. Consider the Patagonia “Better Sweater” Fleece Hoody, in drifter grey ($159).

Love That (521 E. Belvedere Ave., [667] 210-2097, lovethatshop.net) is the newest gift shop in the square. The vibe is gentle with a touch of clever. There are tiny good luck kitty charms ($3.50), misheard lyric coasters ($24), dinosaur umbrellas, and jewelry made by people guaranteed not to have been exploited. (Edward Ericson Jr.)
